The most important decision to make when considering a commissioned piece is choosing your favorite photo(s) for your project. While the artwork is not an exact duplicate of your photo, it is the roadmap to your finished product - it will serve as the basis in creating the expression, colors and fine details of your subject. Resolution, clarity, perspective and lighting are all very important. The quality of the reference photo will definitely influence the quality of the artwork. Backgrounds (including colors) and other objects can be omitted or altered and are less important and can be improvised if necessary vs. facial expressions, areas heavily shadowed, blurry items, etc. It is also possible to incorporate aspects from several photos; so send as many as possible! If the photo was taken by someone else, please make sure you have permission to use it.
Once we select the photo(s), I will mock-up the composition and send a Quote Sheet for your approval. This mock-up is also very important as it will be used as the reference for completing your finished piece. When you approve the composition, I ask for a 50% deposit to reserve your spot on my waitlist. The deposit is nonrefundable unless I am unable to complete the project. While work is in progress I will send photos - please feel free to offer comments or suggestions throughout the process - after all, you know your subject best.
Upon completion I will send a final photo (before I seal the piece) for approval. Portraits are double matted with an engraved brass tag. I will send samples of each for you to choose from. Memorial Urns have an engraved brass heart tag. Every piece comes with a signed and numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
Finally, I will send an invoice for the remaining balance (plus shipping & handling). The final payment is expected before delivery unless prior arrangements have been made. Then your piece will make its way home to you. I typically insure packages and ask for a signature upon delivery, but we can work out those details when the time comes.
